Role
Andruw Monasterio came from Milwaukee in the Caleb Durbin trade and ended up playing 107 games because Trevor Story missed three months. He started 51 games at shortstop and filled in at second, first and third. He even pitched two-thirds of an inning in a blowout. With Story healthy and Franklin Arias coming, there is less room for him in 2027.
Outlook
He hit .233/.295/.371 with 23 doubles, 6 homers and 43 RBIs, which is a usable line for a stopgap. The defense at short was the problem. Savant had him at -15 outs above average, 1st percentile in the majors, and his arm strength was in the 18th percentile. His expected wOBA was in the 12th percentile, so the bat doesn't make up for it. He turns 30 in May.
Our take: the Red Sox needed a body at shortstop and Monasterio played every day without complaint. Those numbers at short mean he shouldn't be the first call next time. We'd expect him to be squeezed off the 40-man this winter when the roster fills up.
