Role
Caleb Durbin came from Milwaukee in February with Andruw Monasterio and Anthony Seigler for Kyle Harrison, Shane Drohan and David Hamilton. He started 147 games at third base and is one of three AL Gold Glove finalists there. He is under team control through 2031 and not arbitration-eligible until 2028 (per MLB Trade Rumors), so third base is his for a while.
Outlook
He hit .248/.332/.378 with 13 homers and 20 steals. The season had two halves. He was at .218/.273/.362 through June 24, when he partially dislocated his left pinkie on a headfirst slide at Coors Field, and he hit .272/.377/.391 from the next day on while playing through it. He had PIP joint reconstruction on the finger in early October (per MLB.com). Savant has him at +6 outs above average (91st percentile) and in the 91st percentile for strikeout rate. It also has him in the 1st percentile for average exit velocity, with a .316 expected slugging against a .378 actual.
Our take: the glove and the contact are real and make him an everyday player. The power isn't there, and a fixed pinkie won't add much of it. Expect about the same hitter with better health, which is a solid regular.
