Role
Weissert pitched the middle innings in 2026, with 63 appearances, 8 holds, and a 3.26 ERA. That makes three straight years of 60-plus games for Boston. He was optioned to Worcester on Aug. 7 to make room for Raymond Burgos and was back by Aug. 13. He made the Wild Card roster and threw a scoreless inning in Game 1. Expect a similar job in 2027.
Outlook
He's a contact manager. His strikeout rate was 23.5%, about league average, but he ranked in the 96th percentile in hard-hit rate allowed (Baseball Savant). The sinker and four-seamer do most of the work. The problem is the home run ball: eight in 60 2/3 innings. His expected ERA was 3.60, a little worse than the real one. He finished with nine scoreless September innings. He blew two saves this year after nine in 2025, and his holds fell from 17 to 8, so he was trusted with fewer late leads.
Our take: Weissert is the right guy for the sixth inning and the wrong guy for the eighth, and the Red Sox seem to know it. He should get about 60 games again with an ERA in the mid-3s.
