Role
Jarren Duran played 151 games in 2026, almost all in left field with 16 starts in center. He hit .207/.266/.361, the lowest OPS of anyone on the roster with 400 plate appearances. He's arbitration-eligible, and MLB Trade Rumors projects an $11.1 million salary for 2027. MLB.com's Ian Browne wrote that the logical move is for Boston to explore a trade before the Nov. 20 non-tender deadline.
Outlook
There were still things to like. He hit 20 homers, stole 21 bases in 25 tries, and his sprint speed (90th percentile) and bat speed (84th) are still near the top of the league. The problem is contact. He struck out 165 times, his whiff rate ranked in the 5th percentile, and he hit .172 in April and .144 in June. A nine-homer May was his only good month. Statcast had him a bit unlucky (a .301 expected wOBA against a .274 actual), but even the expected numbers sit far below his 2024, when he made the All-Star team and hit .285/.342/.492.
Our take: at 30, with one All-Star season and two years of control left, he's a change-of-scenery bet for somebody. Boston has Roman Anthony, Masataka Yoshida and Kristian Campbell for left field and DH, and it needs a right-handed power bat more than an $11 million left-handed one. We think Duran gets traded this winter.
