The Giants released Burgos in August 2025, he pitched in the Mexican League this spring, and Boston signed him to a minor-league deal on May 7. Worcester used him as a starter (15 starts in 17 games). Boston called him up in August and used him for multiple innings at a time. Both of his saves went at least two innings, including three scoreless against the Athletics on Aug. 7.
Outlook
He threw strikes in Boston: 1 walk in 21.1 innings, a 0.84 WHIP. His sweeper is the swing-and-miss pitch, with a 34.7% whiff rate per Statcast, and his sinker sits about 90.5. One outing at Yankee Stadium (7 hits and 5 runs in 2.1 innings) ruined his ERA, which ended at 4.22. His Worcester line was rougher (5.14 ERA, .299 opponent average).
Our take: a long reliever who doesn't walk anyone has a job. We'd keep him on the 40-man.
