Role
Samaniego came from Pittsburgh in December 2025 in the deal that also brought Johan Oviedo. He debuted April 8 and made 20 appearances for Boston through June 2, mostly short outings. He then spent the rest of the summer in Worcester until a Sept. 28 recall.
Outlook
The 2.66 ERA in 20.1 innings looks better than the rest of the line. Opponents hit .286 off him, his WHIP was 1.48, and he struck out 17. At Worcester he had a 4.54 ERA in 37.2 innings. Per Statcast he leans on a 93 mph sinker, and his whiff rate was 21.6%.
Our take: he's 27 and left-handed, so he'll get more chances. With that much contact allowed, he looks like a call-up arm for now.
